Summary
Under the direction of the Community Home Manager/Team Leader, the Child Care Worker (CCW) is responsible for the providing the protection of children by performing duties of Child Care, in accordance with provision of the Child and Family Services Act, Customary Standards of Care, Ministry Regulations, Standards and Policy Directives. The Child Care Worker is responsible for providing the basic care duties of the Children in Care of the QBOW CFS Inc. South Receiving Home. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Requirements
➢ Grade 12 Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
➢ Early Childhood Development certification and/or Diploma in related community/human services field
➢ 2-4 years’ experience in Child and Youth Care field
➢ First Aid/CPR considered an asset
➢ Safe Food Handling certificate also considered an asset
➢ Valid Driver’s License
➢ Ability to pass a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
Job Duties
➢ Conduct holistic needs assessment of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social needs of each child in care in order for the CCW to support and facilitate the child’s growth and development while in care.
➢ Developing and implementing appropriate short and long-term plans of care for the child based on the results of the holistic needs assessment.
➢ Involving the child, the family and the First Nations service collaterals in the development of the child’s plan of care.
➢ Involving alternative care parents, placement resource staff, and other professional support service providers as appropriate in the development of the child’s plan of care.
➢ Observing the child’s needs while in care and revising the plan of care for the child as required.
➢ Providing counselling to the child and initiating and coordinating support linkages for the child with internal and external resources including schools, cultural supports and community-based supports.
➢ Acting as a support to the child during the conducting of any child protection investigation
➢ Coordinating service requirements and advocating on behalf of the child to ensure the receipt of appropriate and timely services; leading and participating in consultations and case conferences with service providers to discuss plans and service needs of the child if required.
➢ Providing support to the child and the family during access visits
➢ Providing support to the child and intervening on his/her behalf in crisis situations; facilitating the resolution of the crisis and developing plans in consultation with the child and service providers to reduce the likelihood of the crisis being repeated.
➢ Prepares child for independence by ensuring life skills are learned through appropriate placement and support of placement.
➢ Appearing as a witness in Child Welfare, Criminal and Youth Justice Courts to give evidence and to act as a support and advocate for the child.
➢ Ensure the Manager/Team Leader is consulted and updated at the appropriate points as required.
➢ Preparing and ensuring accurate, thorough and timely recording of correspondence as required by the Agency policies, Ministry standards and directives, First Nation reporting and service collaboration and the Child and Family Services Act.
➢ Provide attention and support of medical issues, students educational/vocational needs, casework and clinical appointments.
➢ Coordinate individual activities and group activities such as sports, games, trips.
➢ Log all reports, incident reports, and inform the social worker and supervisors of any issues related to children.
➢ Provide basic care, health, nutrition, safety, meals and snacks
➢ Other duties may be assigned as required.
